What is Amoxicillin?
Amoxicillin is an antibiotic that is used to fight bacterial infection in the body. It is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections such as ear infections, pneumonia, strep throat, and certain forms of penicillin-resistant staph. Amoxicillin can also be used to treat food borne illnesses such as E. Coli and salmonella, as well as the sexually transmitted disease gonorrhea.
Amoxicillin is usually the drug of choice in it's class because it is absorbed by the body better, meaning it is more efficient in treating the infection. It work by inhibiting the formation of the bacterial cell wall.

Amoxicillin Side Effects
Serious Amoxicillin side effects:
- fever
- sore throat
- blistering or peeling of the skin, or rash
- nausea
- stomach pain
- low fever
- dark urine
- loss of appetite
- bloody or watery diarrhea
- weakness
- urinating more or less than usual
- agitation
- confusion
- seizure
Call your doctor immediately if you experience any of these side effects, or have an allergic reaction such as hives, swelling of the lips, face, tongue or throat, or difficulty breathing.
Less serious Amoxicillin side effects:- vomiting
- vaginal itching or discharge
- headache
- swollen, black, or "hairy" tongue
- thrush

- Amoxicillin has a half life of about 1 hour
- Some bacteria have developed a resistance to Amoxicillin by producing an enzyme that degrades Amoxicillin. To overcome this, it is often administered with a weak acid like potassium salt that breaks down the enzyme

headache, nausea, eventually became extreme vomiting, pain in vaginal area and upper legs, weakness, exhaustion, sleepiness. Worsened as I took more.
This was the worst thing ever-never taking again.

raised bumps on all 4 extremities, not rash but just look like really bad case of chicken skin.
it was a 1 week regimen TID after teeth extraction, just glad i am over with that. if problem persist will have to toss out body wash, lotion and change the laundry detergent.

16 weeks pregnant and have an ear infection. Physician prescribed 875mg 2x a day for 10 days. Now on day 4 and experiencing the most uncomfortable side effect (bowels).

Nausia, chills, headache, tired, weak, body & legs aches, ears ring & hurt when swollow. This has lasted for 4 days + .
Took four 500 mg amoxcillin 1 hour before dental visit. I have two total hip replacements - and doctor wants me to take this before this type of procedure. I have experienced these same side effects 3 times now. I can not take this drug any more.
